“Gabey is bold, and he wears his heart on his sleeve; I can very much be the same way,” Yazbeck tells Broadway Style Guide. “On the other hand, I wouldn’t think toting around a doll all over Manhattan was gonna help me find the love of my life.”

Yazbeck earned a Tony nomination for leading actor in a musical for his performance, and amidst the busy awards season, he took the time to answer our Tony Awards questionnaire. Find out why he secretly wants to wear his tap shoes and to the Tonys and which other nominee’s style he covets.

What were you wearing when you found out you were nominated?
A red hoodie, jeans, and a ball cap. My wife and I took a walk to the park real early that morning before we found out the good news.

If you could wear absolutely anything to the Tony Awards, what would you wear?
It would be a classic tux, but in my fantasy, I would be wearing my tap shoes too. (Just in case I wanted to break out into dance.)

What are three things in your day-of Tony Awards survival kit?
A notecard with people to thank. Comfortable shoes. A comb.

If you win, who’s the first person you thank in your acceptance speech?
My wife.

If you could be in any other show this season, which show would you be in?
Big Love. It was Off-Broadway at Signature Theatre company. I’m a huge fan of [director] Tina Landau’s work.

How would you describe your personal style?
I’m pretty laid back with what I wear. Jeans and a button down suits me fine, but when I go out, I definitely want to dress up a little.

How would you describe your Tony season style?
Brooks Brothers suits and Cole Haan shoes.

If you could channel any other nominee’s style, who would it be and why?
I would love to channel Sting. The guy exudes sex appeal and charisma in everything he wears.

Who’s your Tony date?
My wife.

What has been your biggest indulgence during Tony season?

Best piece of advice you’re received about being a Tony nominee?
Stay healthy and humble!

What is something you wish you’d known about being a Tony nominee?
It’s a busy time. I wished I knew how to fall asleep at an earlier hour.
